Relationship

When an armed thug threatened to kill Cordelia if she didn't take him to Angel, Wesley donned their boss' trademark coat and pretended to be the vampire in question. The job this thug (or more precisely, the thug's boss) wanted Angel for was to protect a young woman named Virginia Bryce. Wesley reluctantly played along at first, but after speaking with Virginia, he willingly promised that he would do his best to keep her safe from harm.

Virginia resisted his presence at first, but the two of them quickly came to terms. He saved her twice from would-be abductors, and she trusted him enough to open up to him. Wesley tried to tell her the truth about who he was, but his confession was mufled by her eager kiss. The two of them made love that night, but in the morning, Magnus Bryce confronted Wesley about who he really was. Hurt by Wesley's deception, Virginia handed him Angel's coat and turned her back on him, sad to have lost what she'd thought was her first real friend.

Wesley was ushered out of the house in disgrace, but he was determined to keep his promise to protect Virginia. And when he realized Magnus' true plans for his daughter, Wesley led the rest of the team back to the house. Virginia was chained to an altar, about to be sacrificed when Wesley barged through the door and ordered her father to "release her or die". A fight ensued (as often happens on Angel ;p), but Wesley made it to Virginia's side. He hadn't quite reached her in time, though, because Yeska arrived to devour her tribute. But there was a hitch Magnus hadn't counted on: he'd thought Virginia's chastity was safe with Angel, what with the vampire's curse and all, but his efforts to keep his daughter "pure" had long since failed. Yeska rejected the sacrifice, and after Virginia was freed from her chains, she laid her father out with a punch to the jaw and informed him in no uncertain terms that he wasn't her father anymore.

Wes and Virginia continued to see each other, their every appearance in the society pages making Cordelia green with envy. Virginia steered several clients A.I.'s way when Angel fired his team, and she was a great source of support when Wesley seemed to need it most. But after he took a bullet in the stomach, the constant danger of Wesley's life became too much for her. Her feelings for Wesley weren't in question, but caring for him the way she did, Virginia couldn't bear the never-ending worry of whether his next mission would be the one that killed him. Wesley understood what she couldn't say. Their relationship was over.
