Ep. 1.03 - Parity

Sloane: It's possible that K-Directorate stole the key from Benegas. Our data reconnaissance division thinks - although it hasn't been confirmed yet - that he's surrounded at all times by a half-dozen bodyguards. We're talking about guys trained under the UEI Special Forces. We also have reason to believe that Benegas keeps the key on his person at all times. So the big question is: how did K-Directorate swipe the key?
Sydney: Anna. It was Anna, wasn't it?
[meaningful looks all around]

Vaughn: What can you tell me about this woman, Anna Espinosa?
Sydney: She was born in Cuba, raised in Russia. One of the last of the Cold War babies. Go-to officer at K-Directorate for wetwork and active measures. About a year ago, I had a meeting with an informant in Yugoslavia. Low-level... just a guy with intel who needed the money. Anna recorded the entire conversation with a parabolic mic from the building next door.
Vaughn: How do you know?
Sydney: Because as I was shaking his hand to leave, she blew out the back of his skull with a sniper rifle, even though she got what she came for. Her way of telling me I was out of my league.

Vaughn: Look, this is not about me!
Weiss: Yes, it is.
Vaughn: No, it's not. She's going to Madrid. There's this other agent with K-Directorate... she could not sound more dangerous. I'm scared for Sydney. I know I'm off the case... but I want her to come back.
Weiss: Well, look. There's nothing you can do about it. And you don't even know if this K-Directorate woman will be in Madrid. So why worry?
[inevitable cut to Anna, arriving in Madrid]

[Sydney sees Anna across the room, disguised as a waiter. Anna sees her too and winks, then leaves the room.]
Sydney: Anna just crashed the party.
Dixon: Careful, Syd.

Sloane: We mapped out a scenario where you would infiltrate the K-Directorate lab, where we believe the key is being held. Jack thought that... your father thought that it could be too big of a risk.
Sydney: Why? It sounds like the right move.
Jack: Obviously we need the key. Obviously, they need the box. Six hours ago, I contacted K-Directorate, and we settled on an arrangement: you and Anna will meet at a neutral location, under cover of both agencies' security forces. Together you'll open the lock box.
Sydney: Is this a joke?
Sloane: As far as we know, the Directorate doesn't know that the code was divided into two sketches. We have nothing to lose by letting them see what's inside the box.
Jack: This is a symmetric scenario. It compels both sides to adopt a mutually reinforcing course of action. Imposed co-operation is one of the most stable strategic paradigms.
Sydney: Assuming all the players are rational. Plus I'm just supposed to trust Anna Espinosa?
Sloane: I need to brief the advance team.
[he exits]
Jack: The first plan was suicide.
Sydney: I could have handled myself.
Jack: Then we disagree. At least my way you have a fighting chance.

Anna: I heard about your fiancee. Very sad. I thought perhaps it was a security execution, sanctioned by your employers. Maybe you said something you shouldn't have. But then why would you be here? In service of the men who killed your true love?
Sydney: I take it you brought the key.
Anna: I take it you brought the box.
Sydney: Once we see what's inside, we go our separate ways.
[they open the box together, both shocked by what they see]
Sydney: Oh my God.

Ep. 1.04 - A Broken Heart

[When the box is opened, an acidic compound begins to eat away at the page inside. Both race to memorize the binary code before the page dissolves.]
Sydney: [smirking] Didja get it?
Anna: [smirking right back] Did you?

Vaughn: If you'd given SD-6 a bogus code, what would have happened when Anna gave K-Directorate the correct sequence?
Sydney: Who cares?! They would have thought that I made a mistake!
Vaughn: Oh, and what, that Anna didn't? She would have given them the correct code. They would've seen the code indicated Athens, K-Directorate would head there, SD-6 would have nothing - they would suspect you! Sydney, we have to be very careful here. We have to be wildly, crazy careful. If SD-6 suspects you in the least... it's over.
Sydney: [sitting down and thinking] Anna's been the enemy for three years. In Berlin I realised she wants SD-6 to burn almost as much as I do.
Vaughn: As far as the CIA is concerned, the only thing worse than SD-6 getting its hands on critical information is if K-Directorate gets it first. Anna is still your enemy.

Anna: [holding Sydney in a headlock] I was hoping you'd come.

Ep. 1.08 - Time Will Tell

Sniper: The clock is finished. I've got Bristow in my sight.
Anna: Take the shot whenever you have it.

Dixon: [via radio] Sydney... they found us. K-Directorate.
Sydney: [answering] Dixon?
Dixon: They're here. Anna's here. [sounds of gunfire] Sydney, get out of there now!
Sydney: Dixon, do you copy?!
[more gunfire, then]
Dixon: Aaugh—
Sydney: Dixon! Do you copy? Do you copy me?!
[radio silence]
