Kendra Facts

  • According to What's My Line II, Kendra's Watcher's name was Sam Zabuto, but the BtVS novel The Book of Fours mistakenly called him Roger.

  • Kendra was raised by Mr. Zabuto from a very young age. Unlike Joyce and Hank Summers, Kendra's parents knew about Slayers and considered it an honour to have their daughter called to serve.

  • Kendra is the only Slayer we know to have studied the infamous Slayer Handbook, which Giles decided would be of no use in Buffy's case.

  • Even though she was raised to avoid emotional attachments, Kendra did name her lucky stake. Shortly before she was killed, she lent Mr. Pointy to Buffy, who adopted Kendra's favourite weapon as her own.

  • Kendra's upbringing was strict, but she didn't seem to mind because to her, duty was paramount. Her ability to cite verse and volume prompted Buffy to call Kendra a She-Giles, and even though Buffy's emotions gave her the edge in a fight, she easily granted that Kendra's technique was superior.

  • Kendra was shocked that the Scoobies knew that Buffy was the Slayer. Well-trained and obedient, Kendra was accustomed to working in secrecy. To this end, she stowed away in a plane's cargo hold to reach Sunnydale, rather than sit with the other passengers.

  • In WML II, Kendra saved Buffy twice: once, when Patrice attacked at the job fair, and the second time when Buffy had been captured by Spike and the Order of Taraka. Kendra came crashing through the church window to rescue her, and after the fight, despite her feelings about the vampire, she helped Buffy pull Angel to safety.

  • As part of her strict upbringing, Kendra wasn't allowed to talk to boys. She also owned just one shirt, though Buffy lent/gave her another, and when Kendra returned to Sunnydale in Becoming I, her wardrobe had expanded to include an olive tank top, as well as at least two others which she wore in the Buffy comics.
