Kendra in the Comics

Ring of Fire
In this graphic novel set shortly after Passion in S2, the town of Sunnydale gets a visit from Kelgor, a Japanese warrior demon who will run seriously amok if he is reunited with his samurai armor (something Angel's new-found sense of whimsy aims to make happen). To make things worse, Kelgor is also rumoured to hold the secret to resurrecting the dead. There's a shady bureau-type organization mucking about in things, and Giles is still too mired in grief after Jenny's death to be the level-headed help Buffy needs. Even worse still, the promise of the power to resurrect his lost love may be more than Giles can resist.

When the bureau "arrests" Buffy to keep her out of the way, a fortune cookie in her prison-issue dinner contains an unusual message: "Stand back." The note is from Kendra, who makes a hell of an entrance, blowing the door off its hinges to spring Buffy loose. Kendra's been on Kelgor's tail and has some info about him that will come in handy. Especially since Giles has gone AWOL.

Issue 49 (regular series)
With the Scooby gang held prisoner by the combined forces of The Scourge and Adam (who, despite being dead, is still disturbingly goal-oriented), Buffy opts for another refreshing bout of catatonia. During this break from the land of coping, Buffy is visited by the spirits of Kendra and The First Slayer, who help her snap out of it by reminding her of the loved ones who need her. That's a gross oversimplification of a really lovely issue, but if I tried to explain it further, it'd take several pages and require fancy footnotes and diagrams. Because aside from the previous slayers and bad guys involved, we also get a visit from Faith, Angel, and... Pike?! The 4-issue story arc is collected in Note From the Underground, which is available through Dark Horse Comics.
